New partners strengthen BalticSeaH2’s value chains across transport, food, fuels and regional cooperation

As BalticSeaH2 moves forward, the consortium has been updated to reflect the project’s evolving activities and implementation needs. The latest amendment introduces four new consortium members: Vireon Hydrogen, Solar Foods, Liquid Sun and Vätgas Sverige.

The new partners strengthen the project’s work across hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, industrial hydrogen use, synthetic fuels, food industry applications and Nordic hydrogen market development. Their expertise supports BalticSeaH2’s goal to build a cross-border hydrogen valley between Finland and Estonia and connect it with hydrogen valleys and ecosystems around the Baltic Sea region.

Vireon strengthens heavy-duty transport infrastructure

Vireon Hydrogen joins the consortium with a focus on hydrogen distribution and refuelling infrastructure. In the amended project plan, Vireon contributes to the development of hydrogen distribution by ships and trucks and will develop a hydrogen refuelling station use case in the Main Valley area. The work supports the creation of practical infrastructure for heavy-duty road transport in the Helsinki and Vantaa area.

Vireon’s role strengthens the link between hydrogen production, logistics and end use. This is important for developing a hydrogen market where supply, distribution and demand can grow together.

Solar Foods brings hydrogen into the food industry

Solar Foods Oyj brings a new industrial end-use perspective to BalticSeaH2. The company will explore the use of hydrogen in the production of its new and versatile protein ingredient, Solein, establishing a food industry use case within the project. This broadens the project’s industrial scope and demonstrates how hydrogen, renewable electricity, and carbon dioxide can be integrated into new value chains, including food production.

Liquid Sun links hydrogen to sustainable aviation and marine fuels

Liquid Sun Oy strengthens the project’s work on synthetic fuels. In the amended plan, the company will investigate the use of hydrogen in sustainable aviation fuel production and the use of hydrogen derivatives as marine bunker fuels. This connects hydrogen with synthetic fuel production, maritime applications and aviation-related value chains.

Vätgas Sverige expands Nordic cooperation and replication

Vätgas Sverige brings Swedish hydrogen ecosystem expertise into the project. Its role includes providing input on renewable energy potential for hydrogen production in Sweden, sharing storage-related lessons learned, supporting Nordic market analysis and contributing to cooperation and replication activities. This strengthens the Connected Valleys dimension of BalticSeaH2 and supports hydrogen market development across the wider Baltic Sea region.

Together, the new partners broaden BalticSeaH2’s practical scope. They add new links between production and end use, strengthen transport and fuel infrastructure, and bring additional expertise to the replication of hydrogen valley models across the Baltic Sea region.
