BalticSeaH2’s second External Advisory Board meeting focused on shaping the Finnish hydrogen economy vision

On September 15, 2025, BalticSeaH2’s External Advisory Board members – representing diverse background of expertise – and project partners met to discuss Finland’s hydrogen economy vision, currently under preparation in the project.

The workshop collected views on the pre-selected topics of renewable electricity supply, the need for efficient infrastructure, ensuring societal well-being, nature values, innovations, and positioning Finland as a forerunner in hydrogen economy.

Participants discussed the importance of clear and simple hydrogen regulation on EU level to trigger the investments and to guarantee demand for clean electricity as well as regulatory certainty and affordable electricity. Fact-based information sharing and benefit-sharing models for communities were identified as factors to increase local acceptance. The concept of industrial parks was discussed as one measure to increase local acceptance and to align the development with nature values. The need for more proactive investment in innovation, education, and knowledge sharing was also highlighted. Additionally, the importance of anchor companies as well as timelines and readiness to invest were emphasized as crucial factors to enable Finland exceed its size in the European hydrogen market.

The outcomes of the workshop will be further integrated into the ongoing development of Finland’s hydrogen vision, with further feedback collection from a wide variety of stakeholder groups taking place in the upcoming months. Hydrogen visions will be developed also forother countries around the Baltic Sea region within the project.
