Poland and Finland are both central to building a functioning hydrogen economy in Europe

Finland offers competitive conditions for producing renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives, while Poland brings strong industrial demand, technical expertise and growing potential for large-scale storage. Together, they form a complementary foundation for a Baltic Sea regional market.
Strengthening Finnish-Polish cooperation in the Baltic Sea region
Partners in BalticSeaH2 are strengthening Finnish-Polish cooperation to support the development of an integrated hydrogen market across the Baltic Sea region. The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at H2Poland in Poznań, bringing together key actors from both countries.
The agreement focuses on advancing a sustainable and secure hydrogen economy through joint knowledge exchange, ecosystem development and coordinated support for industry and innovation. It also reinforces Poland’s role as a key partner in linking national efforts to the wider regional market.
For BalticSeaH2, cross-border cooperation is not an add-on but a prerequisite. Scaling hydrogen solutions requires alignment across infrastructure, demand, regulation and investment, particularly in a region where energy systems are already closely interconnected.
The signing reflects a shared understanding that accelerating hydrogen deployment depends on stronger regional coordination. By connecting production, demand centres and infrastructure planning, Finnish and Polish partners are working to reduce investment risk and improve the conditions for market uptake.
This collaboration builds directly on BalticSeaH2’s broader work, where partners across the Baltic Sea region are developing the elements of a large-scale hydrogen market. The project supports coordinated infrastructure planning, strengthens value chains and creates the conditions for investments that extend beyond individual national markets.
